Kilfinane (Cill Fhíonáin in the native Irish language) is a small market town in southeast County Limerick, the nearest town to the bike trails. The Town’s name comes from the Irish words “Cill" for church and “Fhíonáin” Irish for Finian, making its meaning “Church of Saint Finian.” Kilfinane is located approximately 5km from the trail centre, 40 km southeast of Limerick City. The town has a population of approximately 750 people. Ballyhoura is well equipped to host the event, having previously facilitated the Single Speed World Championship 2011, the International Bluegrass Enduro Tour and the Irish National Marathon Championships in 2013.
With an elevation of over 150 metres, Kilfinane is the highest town in County Limerick. It is surrounded on three sides by the Ballyhoura Mountains, and on the fourth side is the “Golden Vale” region that runs through Counties Limerick, Cork, and Tipperary. The Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Centre is Ireland's largest mountain bike park and will act as the event centre for the Championships on the 14th and 15th of June. We look forward to welcoming you in June 2014.
